Every once in while, we have the privilege of having our questions regarding chiropractic answered by the professionals themselves. These leaders in chiropractic take the time to come to CMCC and participate in a panel style Q&A session.
Topics for our very first Q&A session included language in chiropractic, and the term subluxation. Also, topics of metaphysics and chiropractic biomechanics were discussed. The different mechanisms of actions of chiropractic treatment were explored from a biomechanics point of view, through Dr. Ross’s power point presentation “The Chiropractic Theories: How does Spinal Manipulation Exert it’s Clinical Effect?”. This presentation focused on informing student on how to properly defend our chosen profession with research and evidence. Some examples of the mechanism are the gate control theory and stimulating mechanoreceptors, mechanical lock theories and the breaking scar tissue theories. Furthermore, the discussion of language in chiropractic was useful in teaching us how to use the word subluxation, when it is appropriate to do so, and how to apply it in the correct dialect.
