Some thoughts and ideas from Dr. David Wicks and Sharon Mooney. Here, I share some information that made an impression on me. Ideas I hope to carry with me throughout my chiropractic education. Things to consider, and things that stuck with me from Dr. David Wicks speech: Vision: where do you want to go. Mission statement: what you wish to bring to the people around you. Sharing of the vision, that people need to buy into. Working collaboratively: everyone joining in. Leadership requires a two-way dialogue. Need to have everyone’s input. Its not great to just make sure everyone is happy at the end of the day, people need to make sacrifices while still being reassured they have been heard. Mutual trust and respect: need to be open and frank with people and tell them not only the good, but also the bad as to not make them feel like they are being left behind. Share the bad news as well and people will trust you. Must be able to take risk**: It you are not an expert in an area, surround yourself with people who are better equipped in that arena and trust them. Risk taking – encourage it, learn from mistakes and reflect on failures. Everyone should try to live up to the expectations that you set out** and have everyone try to accomplish Here are some helpful entrepreneurship tool and tips from Sharon Mooney. First, we will start with some definitions. Intrapreneur: someone who works or contracts services to someone else with less risk and responsibility vs. entrepreneur: One who recognizes a business or develops an idea and takes responsibility for its operation, profits, and losses. She then went on to describe how luck isn't really luck at all, but the results of a lot of relentless effort and hard work. The risk it takes to become lucky, is the risk we must take to achieve our goals. LUCKY L – location: of where you want to practice and be an entrepreneur. Competitive analysis, accessibility, convenient hours of business. U – understanding your clients ** Know what you are trying to focus on. · Referral opportunities · Be visible - think about target groups – people with minds alike. · Educating, conversations. C- Creativity · Imagination, innovation, seeing a different perspective K- Ketchup · Make a brand for yourself. · Loyalty – repeat business and sustainability · Emotional connection to ketchup · Keep reinventing yourself** This was a very positive talk and Q&A session regarding our futures.
